Books & Bottles

My life as a Stay-at-Home mom & Full-Time students
When others hear "stay at home mom", I imagine they picture someone whose main focus is caring for their child(ten), which is absolutely true. But in my case, it's also about juggling lectures, deadlines, and studying alongside nap time and diaper changes. Being a full time student in university and a full time mom is one of the hardest things I've ever done - besides giving birth.
Challenges of Two Full Time Roles
Some days feel like the day is never going to end and I just can't wait till my other half comes home. Mornings start early with my son wanting to get up with his dad for work, and before I know it, I'm getting ready to head to class. I have moments where my mind isn't even in class, but wondering if the babysitter fed my son breakfast and a bottle or changed his diaper good so he doesn't get a rash.
But I think there doesn't always have to be a balance between the two. There are nights where the house is messy and I'm struggling to stay awake to compete assignments. But my partner and I constantly remind myself that everything will be okay; that we are doing this for our future and I'm grateful for these struggles.
My Support System
None of this would even be possible without my support. My family, understanding professors, and most importantly the father of my baby. Each play a role in helping me manage everything: My family does nothing but encourage me, my professors show compassion when life gets hectic, and my partner steps in with long and strength every single day. Even when he's busy with work, school and jits.
Final Thoughts
Being a stay at home mom and a student isn't about having everything figured out, but about perseverance and purpose. I may not always get a full night of sleep and sometimes my son is all over me when doing essays, but I'm proud and grateful for the life we're building.
